FAQS
What makes your services different from other designers?
We lead with listening. Every project begins with understanding how you live, what you value, and what you want your space to feel like.
We don’t design for trends — we design for you.
With a background in design, space planning, engineering, woodworking, and project management, we bring both creativity and technical expertise to every project. From concept to completion, we thoughtfully manage the details to create spaces that feel intentional, functional, and personal.
How does the consultation relate to the Design Concept (Phase 1)?
Every project begins with a paid Design Consultation. This working session allows us to understand your space, goals, and priorities, and determine overall scope. Following the consultation, we outline the Design Concept (Phase 1) and provide a service agreement if moving forward is a good fit.
The consultation is required to begin the process, but it does not obligate you to proceed into Phase 1.
Can I start with a smaller service and upgrade later?
Yes. Every project begins with a consultation and Phase 1 starts with the Design Concept. From there, you may move into Design Sourcing, and then into Design Execution, as your needs evolve.
What if I live outside your area?
Many of our services can be completed virtually. Design Concept and Design Sourcing projects are often done remotely, while Full-Service projects require on-site availability depending on scope and location.
Do you work with contractors?
We do not hire contractors directly, but we collaborate closely with your selected team to ensure design intent is carried through. In the Design Execution (Phase 3), we coordinate with contractors throughout execution to support design decisions, review details, and maintain alignment with the overall vision.
Do I need to know my style before we start?
Not at all. A core part of our process is helping you discover and define your style. Through thoughtful conversations and curated concepts, we translate your preferences into a cohesive design that feels authentic to you.
How does sourcing furniture and finishes work?
Sourcing is introduced after the Design Concept (Phase 1), once the overall direction, layout, and scale of your space have been thoughtfully defined.
From there, you have a few options based on your needs and level of support:
Self-Guided: After Phase 1, you may choose to source and purchase items on your own using the design direction provided.
Phase 2 – Design Sourcing: We curate a detailed sourcing plan with selected furnishings, lighting, and materials, including direct purchase links. You manage purchasing and implementation at your own pace.
Phase 3 – Design Execution: We manage the entire process for you—from sourcing and purchasing to vendor coordination, delivery, and installation—ensuring a seamless, fully executed space.
How long does the process take?
Timelines vary based on scope and service tier. Design Concept and Design Sourcing projects typically complete in 2-3 weeks, while Design Execution projects require additional time to accommodate sourcing, vendor lead times, and installation. Estimated timelines are outlined at the start of each phase.
How is pricing structured for each service?
Each phase includes defined deliverables and a set number of refinement rounds. Additional scope or revisions beyond what’s outlined are quoted separately.
Phase 1: Design Concept - Fixed fee based on room type and square footage.
Phase 2: Design Sourcing - Billed hourly based on the approved scope of work.
Phase 3: Design Execution - Combines hourly project management (retainer-based) with a procurement fee built into product pricing
Do you require a retainer?
Yes. Phase 3 (Design Execution) projects require an upfront project management retainer at the start of the phase. The retainer is applied toward hourly project management, coordination, site visits, installation oversight, and final styling.
Time spent on these activities is billed against the retainer at an hourly rate. Any additional hours beyond the retainer are billed as incurred. Any unused retainer balance is reconciled at project completion.
Why is there both a Procurement Fee and a Project Management Retainer?
They cover two distinct aspects of the project, keeping your investment clear and predictable.
Project Management Retainer: Covers our time—design decisions, vendor coordination, timeline management, site visits, installation oversight, and final styling. All work is billed hourly against the retainer.
Procurement Fee: Covers the logistics of sourcing and purchasing—order placement, vendor coordination, delivery tracking, and issue resolution for all items we manage on your behalf. This fee is built into the pricing of furnishings and materials, allowing for a simplified, all-in-one purchasing experience.
Together, these ensure both the products and the process are professionally managed from start to finish.
